Located in the Haute-Vallée de l'Aude opposite Rennes-le-Château, the Château de Coustaussa is a medieval castle of the Cathar country built in the 12th century. As important as castles of Termes and Puivert, this monument is linked to the history of the families of Villar, Fenouillet, Montesquieu and Hautpoul. With stunning views over the Salz Valley, Couiza and its surroundings, the castle imposes itself as the guard of this passage towards the Corbières.
The safeguard project being set up offers the visitor a heritage part with its majestic ruins and an environmental part with its surrounding ecological diversity. A nature discovery trail is being created.
The presentation of the project is done through guided tours with commentary in the secure parts of the monument and the park. The site can be accessed without great difficulty.
