Located in the medieval city of Alet, the origins of this abbey are unknown. In the 12th century, it attracted many pilgrims. It enjoyed an unexpected revival after the difficult period of the Cathar Crusade and was chosen as the seat of a new bishopric. The abbey within the city walls was destroyed during the religious wars and its imposing remains are all that’s left: the 12th century Notre Dame Cathedral, the chapter house and the north entrance.
