Carnival of Limoux

The longest in the world

A tradition of more than400 years for theLongest Carnival in the world. From January to the end of March or even the beginning of April, “Fecos” and “Goudils“, accompanied by traditional music, dance under the medieval arches of the Place de la République, drawing you into a great whirlwind of colors, festivity and typical music.

Carnival of Limoux

From January to the end of March, or even the beginning of April, every Saturday and Sunday, on Mardi Gras, at a rate of 3 outings per day, “Fecos” and “Goudils“, accompanied by traditional music, dance under the medieval arches of the Place de la République, drawing you into a great whirlwind of colors.

  • The 11 o’clock exit, often bawdy or saucy, is inspired by current events made fun of to be comical.
  • The 4:30 p.m. exit, is done in pierrot, whose shape or colors are different for each band.
  • The exit of 22 hours, by the light of “entorches”, torches made from resin, straw shavings and burlap, brings to this exit a special atmosphere.
32 bands are involved throughout the year

Always bustling, they prepare their outing months in advance, in a friendly spirit: morning themes, costumes, masks….

Would you like to share special moments with the “Fécos”?

  • Sit down under the medieval arcades of the Place de la République, preferably on the 1ers rows, the “Fécos” with his “carabene” will come and “pat” your head, throw you a handful of confetti and maybe whisper a few words in the hollow of your ear, ideally in Occitan.
  • You want to get in on the fun: here everything is possible. Bring your disguise and make “goudil” (dress up with what you have at hand: nightgown, gardener’s suit…. Remember that the “goudil” is behind the music, it can in no way mix with the band in front of the music.

Confetti, instead of golden bubbles as if it rained, the exit of all the bands remains the must-see event of the moment. 500 carnivalists, more than 100 musicians invite you to enter the dance in a whirlwind of colors … a great moment to meet the heart of Limouxins.
