Pieusse is located on a knoll overlooking the Aude River and the Razès Valley. Towards the east, the hills are covered with vines that produce the blanquette de Limoux. The history of the village goes back to the Gallo-Roman period. Its strategic location on the hill allowed it to defend access to the upper Aude valley.
Between 1222 and 1225, in Pieusse, the Cathar council was held to constitute a new bishopric of Razès and to designate a new bishop.
Joseph Delteil, celebrated writer and poet lived in Pieusse his young years and is buried in the cemetery of the commune.
