Escueillens and Saint Jean de Belengard

The commune comes from the meeting of two villages Escueillens and Saint-Just-de-Bellengard. Escueillens, dominated by its elegant bell tower and its feudal castle, rises on the south-eastern slope of the hill located on the great line of made or European backbone discharging its waters, on one side, into the ocean, by the Garonne, on the other into the Mediterranean, by the Aude. The feudal castle, built on the rock, at the highest point of the hill, is well preserved. It is divided into several particular dwellings.
